Official Welcome to Annual Conference 2014

February 1, 2014

Fellow United Methodists, Guests and Friends: Mother Irene Innis and I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Also, we wish to welcome you in the spirit of love, peace and joy to the 181st Session of our Conference being held here on the campus of the Gbarnga United Methodist Mission. We are certain that the Spirit of God, through Jesus Christ, will guide and protect us as we discuss issues in the best interest of our Conference under the theme: “Finding our Gifts and Talents for Service in the Church and Society,” based on the text, Matthew 25: 14-30.

As many of you may know, this was the theme and text of the 180th Session that was held in Greenville last year February. We thought it expedient to repeat this very important topic because it serves as a spiritual reminder that our gifts and talents are needed for the faithful building of God’s kingdom among us. A repeated reminder of this theme and text will help us to be faithful to our calling, feel the presence of God daily in our lives and do the Lord’s good will. Let it be known that as we do God’s will, God will abide with us so that our happiness in Jesus will be enriched to God’s glory and honor.

We wish to thank the district superintendents of Gbarnga, Kokoyah, Weala, Voinjama and Jorquelleh and their team of leaders for the preparations they have made in hosting us on Gbarnga Mission. We thank the Treasurer and his staff for providing the necessary funds for the Conference. We are grateful to the political leadership of the City of Gbarnga for assisting the leadership of our Church in Bong County in preparing for the 181st Session of our Conference. Equally so, we are thankful to the Conference Secretary and the team of volunteer workers for producing the journals and programs of this Session of the Conference.

Lastly, we wish to thank Members of the Steering Committee for fulfilling their mandate in seeking help for the good and pleasant hosting of this Conference.

May God bless us all for a successful beginning and ending of this Session of the Liberia Annual Conference in the City of Gbarnga, Bong County.
